Origin: Japan

Height: 0.3 metres

Hardiness: - 29 degrees celcius; Zone 4b

Exposure: Sun or Light Shade

Use: Plant in raised beds or around the base of specimen trees.

This is the smallest of all cold hardy bamboos but it is not short on character!

The Pleioblastus Pygmaeus is extremely bushy with a mass of culms and leaves. Winter bleaching can occur, however in general the leaves are deep green throughout the year.

If you want to keep the plant's bushy appearance year after year, simply cut it down to the ground and watch it regenerate itself in the coming Spring.
