The Fargesia Jiuzhaigou is a fairly new introduction from China and is still relatively rare in the UK (named after a park in Sichuan where the seeds were collected).
This clump forming bamboo has green culms when they emerge which turn slowly to a red/purple colour and eventually to a light orange. The colour and depth of red will vary depending on exposure to sun light. Fargesia Jiuzhaigou’genf’ is very similar to the main cultivar Fargesia Jiuzhaigou 1, but is expected to mature a bit taller nearer 4m.
This bamboo performs extremely well in sun or semi shade and looks excellent in a container with its colourful qualities.
