Fargesia Denudata Xian is a clump-forming bamboo prized for its elegant, fine foliage and gracefully arching habit. New slim culms emerge vertically from the center, turning a vibrant yellow in sunlight before maturing to display green canes with yellow and red tinges. Growing between 2 and 4 meters tall, it establishes rapidly, making it an excellent choice for screening and privacy. Its attractive leaves gently sway in the breeze, adding both texture and movement to any garden setting.

Fargesia Denudata Xian closely resembles Fargesia Murielae in both form and colour but features shorter branches and smaller leaves, highlighting its elegantly arching canes. It withstands temperatures down to -10°F, though it is slightly less hardy than Fargesia Murielae. Unlike Fargesia Murielae and Fargesia Nitida, its foliage remains green throughout winter without yellowing or dropping in autumn. This clumping bamboo thrives with some shelter from intense afternoon sun, making it a resilient and year-round attractive plant for screening and garden interest.

Speciality Bamboo, Relatively rare in the UK.  Thought to be from one of the most northerly regions of China.

Fargesia Demissa 'Gerry', commonly known as Chinese fountain bamboo, is a stunning cold-hardy clump-forming variety perfect for Scottish gardens. This non-invasive bamboo features elegant upright culms that mature from soft pastel blue to deep purple or near-black, adorned with striking silver-white bands from persistent sheaths. Growing to 2–4 metres, it's ideal for smaller spaces, containers, or creating natural privacy screens without the need for rhizome barriers. Its open, upright habit makes it a sophisticated choice for contemporary and traditional landscapes alike.  

Prefers shade.  Strong sunlight may damage leaves.

NOTE:  This is a 'running' Bamboo, would recommend planting in large pots or using a Rootbarrier to contain.

Phyllostachys atrovaginata, known as Incense Bamboo, is a distinctive running bamboo prized for its large, stiff, and upright culms with a unique grooved pattern. This evergreen species features canes that grow thick relative to their height and typically bear two leafy branches per node. In warmer conditions or when rubbed, it emits a subtle, fragrant aroma, adding sensory appeal to its structural elegance. Ideal for temperate climates, it initially behaves like a clumping bamboo before spreading, making it a versatile choice for expert gardeners seeking both form and fragrance. Will tolerate very wet soil.

Maximum height can reach 10 m (33 ft) with a maximum culm diameter of 7.0 cm (2.7 in)

Originating from China, specifically central and eastern provinces growing naturally along riverbanks, flood plains and damp valleys. 

Interesting Fact :  It has unique air canals in its roots and rhizomes, allowing it to survive wet soggy soil.

Also known as Jiuzhaigou 4,  Chinese Fountain Bamboo.

With striking dark green foliage and deep red stems, this vigorous fountain bamboo creates year-round visual interest in any garden setting. The upright, bushy clumps of slender dark brown to near-black stems are clothed in delicate, narrow leaves, forming an elegant architectural presence. Perfect as a standalone specimen in a pot or container, or use it to create an informal screen or hedge. Though it sheds some leaves in winter, its distinctive stem colouring remains a decorative feature throughout the seasons. Ideal for adding structure and drama to borders, patios, and contemporary garden designs.

Height:  1.5  -  2.5 metres

Spread:  1.5  -  2.5 metres

Hardiness:  H5, representing cold-hardy plants that survive winter temperatures down to -15 to -10°C (5 to 14°F). Suitable for most of the UK even in severe winters, H5 plants are ideal for many regions but may require protection in highly exposed, cold inland, or northern locations, especially if in pots.

NOTE:  This is a 'running' Bamboo and recommended for pot growing or the use of a Root Barrier to contain spread.

PLEIOBLASTUS SHIBUYANUS TSUBOI is a compact evergreen bamboo prized for its creamy-white variegated leaves and delicate, pendulous growth habit. This relatively dwarf variety forms dense mats through vigorously spreading rhizomes, reaching heights of 1 to 1.5 metres with a spread of 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Its slender canes produce multiple leafy branches per node, creating an elegant, cascading effect as the new culms mature and weigh down. Ideal for groundcover or ornamental planting, it offers year-round interest and dense foliage in a manageable size.
